Some taboos of the Achang

1. Siblings after marrying don't enter each other bedrooms.

2. The first day of the year no live beings should be killed, because it is considered inauspicious.

3. Women cannot live in the upper floor. If the men are downstairs, they can not stay upstairs.

4. The men should not walk where the women hang their skirts.

5. The first seven days after childbirth, no man of another family can enter the house.

6. The woman cannot jump on the farm tools, because she would diminish her capacity to cultivate the earth.

7. The woman cannot sit down astride the house door, because it is considered inauspicious.

8. Strangers cannot move the tablets of the ancestors in a house. This is logical, as it is the most sacred place in the home. It represents the ancestors. Nothing would be more disrespectful.
