He Guangyue.- Di qiang yuanliu shi. (History of the origin and development of the Di and the Qiang) Jingxi jiauyu chubanshe (Jiangxi Education Press). 2000.

The book is an extensive study of all the peoples that have inhabited the western regions of the Chinese empire along the history. It begins with the study of the Rong peoples and its different branches, to arrive later to the Qiang peoples. The book depicts the ethnic and political entities that have been generated along the history by the Di and Qiang peoples, two ethnic entities not always well differentiated.

It studies the development of the family life of the Qiang during the last years.


Li Ming.- Qiang zu wenxue shi. (History of the literature of the Qiang). Sichuan minzu chubanshe (Sichuan Nationalities Press). 1994.

It is curious that one of the most extensive volumes in the series of the "Literature of the Minorities" is in fact the one dedicated to the Qiang, a people of scarce population's that has not received special attention for the Chinese academic circles. Certainly the author carries out an exhaustive work, in which he doesn't scant to present the texts to analyze, what transforms his work in an indispensable reference for all later work on the Qiang literature.

An encyclopedic dictionary of the Qiang, including more than 2000 entries arranged in 16 categories that includes all the fields of knowledge related to the Qiang.


Ren Naiqiang. - Qiang zu yuanliu tansou (Explorations on the origin of the Qiang). Chongqing. 1984.

After carrying out a general characterization of the old Qiang culture, the author follows the hints to the peoples that originated of those old Qiang for the geography of China. Unfortunately the book has not been able to use for its work the numerous studies carried out in the last times on the languages of the Qiangic branch of languages.


Sun Hongkai.- Qiang yu jian zhi (The language Qiang). Minzu chubanshe (Nationalities Press) 1981

The Qiang language: phonology, grammar and lexicon. In the section of the dialects we see that the two main dialects are mutually unintelligible, and that among their local talks there exist important differences. In the small lexicon at the end of the book we see that the dialects are really different.


Wang Kai.- Baishe shenmi zhongbai (The secret cult to the white stone). Sichuan minzu chubanshe (Sichuan Nationalities Press) 1992.

The cult to the white stone is quite extended among the peoples of Qiangic origin. In spite of the numerous ethnic groups that practice it, of the myths that try to narrate their origin and the many ritual associated to it, the circumstances of the origin of the cult to the white stone remain a mystery at the moment. The book makes an exhaustive analysis of the up to dated materials, but he is not able to throw light on this cult.


Xu Ping.- Qiang cun shehui (Society of a Qiang village). Zhongguo shehui kexueyuan (Chinese Academy of Social Sciences). 1993

This is a quite detailed analysis of the economy, social structures, people's life, spiritual universe, culture and transformations of a Qiang rural community. Directed by Fei Xiaotong, pioneer in the anthropological study of the rural communities of China.


Yang Ming and Ma Tinglin. - Qiang zu sixiang shi ziliao huiji (Materials about the history of the Qiang thought) Xinan minzu xueyuan (Southwest Institute of Nationalities) 1985

An interesting work that, being based on the myths, stories, songs and legends of the Qiang, try to analyze their thought and society. In the book numerous original versions of the myths and songs are included, and especially a very complete version of "The war between the Qiang and the Ge". One of their most famous historical poems.


Zhou Xiyin. - Qiang zu (The Qiang). Minzu chubanshe (Nationalities Press). 1993.

The introduction volume to this minority describes its history, architecture, dresses, literature, festivals and religion.
